History

Progress conditions in the water resources management in the Czech Republic were markedly innovated after the turnover in 1989. Until then centrally planned water resources management was made over to the competence of cities and communities and they have started to be the deciding factor for the future development of this branch and they also became the managers of water management property.

The trusteeship ensuring (needed for the future constructions and especially for the maintenance of acceptable water rate) led the mayors of the cities and communities to the decision to create the powerful company that would guarantee the prospective development of this important economic area as well as the complex environment protection. Because of these reasons State Property Fund of the Czech Republic in conjuction with mayors of the 424 north-bohemian cities and communities established the company of Severočeská Vodárenská společnost in 1993.

At the time of its creation, the company took over an extensible infrastructure property with considerable environmental burden inherited from the past. The prime requisite was the completion of sewage systems and the construction of waste-water treatment plants.
An extensive investment programme in which the company used its own resources and also the funds and grants from the state budget, grants of the European Union (ISPA, Cohesive Fund) and of the German Ministry of Environment (BMU), made the construction of crucial waste treatment objects possible. These activities were necessary for marked water pollution control (especially rivers) in the north of Bohemia as well as in the border regions.

The amount of shareholders gradually widened to the current number of 459 cities and communities of both neighbouring regions.

The company management runs under the control of shareholders and all financial resources are used for long-term development of the infrastructure property in the given region.
